Anaesthesia is a necessary part of many treatments, including stitchups, and dental cleaning. Heres how we do it safely...
Anaesthesia is a personal passion of mine, and I have been doing extra study and work in this field for over 4 years. I was also honored to be invited to work with the anaesthesia department at the university of sydney to help teach their final year students.
Modern anaesthesic drugs used in veterinary clinics are the same as the ones used in human hospitals, and are very safe. However, any anaesthetist will tell you "there are no safe drugs, only safe anaesthetists".
It is up to each veterinarian to decide how they perform anaesthesia, within the minimum guidelines set by the Veterinary practitioners board. I personally take great care to exceed these guidelines, and extra precautions based on personal experience. If you have any questions about an upcoming procedure for your pet, please give me a call.
